Catthew’s Cave Caper is a 2D top-down adventure game with a focus on a single moment that changes the gameplay radically- after the initial exploratory journey into the cave, Catthew grabs the gemstone and the game erupts in a panic- hurry and escape!

The whole game consists of one long cave level, in which the player will first venture deep into the cave, discovering new rooms and finding cracks along the way. This is the longer half of the experience, and it is rife with trepidation as the player learns how to control the protagonist and observes the layout of the map.

The second half of the experience is decidedly quicker. The player grabs the gem at the deepest level of the cave, and suddenly the environment is different! Everything is crumbling, hidden pitfalls are revealed, and a new button prompt is revealed: RUN!

This game is pretty simple, all told. Anyone should be able to pick up the controls without too much trouble, and beat it with enough practice- experienced gamers may even find it easy.

Theme Interpretation (Calm before the Storm):

While there is not a storm in my game, strictly speaking, there is a decisive feeling of calm in the first part of the game which quickly gives way to a panic as the cave starts to collapse in on itself. Furthermore, if you consider an earthquake a storm, the earthquake caused by taking the gemstone off its pedestal definitely counts.
